Hello Whitman Alumni! I;ve got a resource here I think you might be able to use:

I work for a company called GoJobs.com, we are an online job board.  We’re undergoing a massive site redesign now, with the eventual goal of doing a better job matching job seekers to jobs they’d be a good fit for.  The link I gave up there is for jobs in Oregon, and we also have pages for jobs nationwide, in other states, and by category.  Thanks in advance for checking it out, and good luck in the future!

You and Me...We'll Have a World War.
What are some big questions that you'd wished someone would have asked you the semester before you graduated?

What are some questions do you wish you would have asked?
14th-Aug-2006 11:29 am - Help with dance resume?
Hi! I have a question for you all. I have an audition coming up with Do Jump! Extremely Physical Theater. I have never done a serious dance audition before. My question is about my resume. I don't know how to make a dance resume! What information needs to be on there that is different from a standard resume, and what info does not need to be there? Are there any resources online or elsewhere that would help or provide info? Do I need a head-shot or other photo? If I don't have a lot of experience, what is the best way to present it on my resume? Most of my performance experience is in music or theater, so I feel a bit out of my element with this kind of audition. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

9th-Aug-2006 01:13 am - Whitman in Ashland 2006: Trip report
For those who may be interested, I've posted comments on this past weekend's alumni-sponsored Oregon Shakespeare Festival tour in my own Livejournal (a sequence of four posts covering five plays and various dinners).  As per usual, the tour was highly enjoyable, and we appear to be settling nicely into our new headquarters at the Ashland Springs Hotel.

The first post is here; the rest follow in sequence.
8th-May-2006 03:46 pm - PDX yoga studios
Does anyone have suggestions or comments on yoga studios in Portland? I'm an inexperienced but physically fit beginner in his twenties. Where are the best teachers? Which studios are overpriced, which are more affordable? Where would I be more likely to meet people in their 20s? Which studios are more spiritual in orientation versus more athletic? Anything else pertinent? Thanks!

x-posted to damnportlanders, portland, whitman_alumni, and whitties.
24th-Apr-2006 10:37 pm - @whitties.org going away?
Well, this is irritating: You probably got this e-mail if you've got an @whitties.org accountCollapse )

When I signed up for my whitties.org account a few years ago, I wondered why we didn't have something sensible like alumni.whitman.edu instead of something shorter but really informal like whitties.org. Now, years later, the alumni relations people have apparently cottoned on to this issue. Why couldn't they have gotten their damn act together in the first place? I thought "lifetime e-mail forwarding" meant just that, not "e-mail forwarding for a few years until we figure out something really obvious." I sure hope "the opportunity to change" to the new address does not actually mean "it's mandatory to change whether you join the directory or not" - I've written to Ms. Schmitz to ask, but I'm not optimistic.

My daddy paid too much money for me to be massively inconvenienced like this! *stamps feet*
30th-Mar-2006 03:30 pm - Moving Advice

So I just got accepted into a PhD program in Indiana. This means I'll be setting up my first apartment from scratch. (At Whitman I lived in dorms and interest houses and since graduating I've been mooching off my mom at home so I can pay off educational loans.) I was wondering if people had any good advice on what to do/bring/buy/watch out for.

For example, I know I'll need to buy myself a toolbox.
20th-Mar-2006 05:35 pm - Whitties Japan - up and running!
Hey guys and gals,

I started the Yahoo Group! So, now we have an official beginning to a Whitties-Japan network. If you are living in Japan, have lived in Japan, may live or travel to Japan at some point, please feel free to join. And please tell everyone you know who has similar connections to Japan - JETs, AKP/Kansai Gaidai people, anyone!

To subscribe, just send an email to whittiesjapan-subscribe @ yahoogroups.com (no spaces of course).

13th-Mar-2006 01:39 pm - Alumni chapter... in Japan?
So, last summer I worked at the orientations for the new JETs when they first arrive in Japan, and I ran into about 10 Whitties. It got me thinking that there are all these alumni chapters, and there seem to be a fair number of Whitties in Japan, either on the JET programme or studying or working...

I contacted the alumni officer and got the contact info for the alumni that are listed in Japan. There are about 30 on the list, plus there are many more recent alumni who aren't on that list but I know they are in Japan. I was thinking about creating an alumni chapter for Japan. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? The only idea I came up with was maybe making a listserv on Yahoo groups, and any alumni and students who are currently living in Japan, have lived in Japan, are thinking about living in Japan, etc. could join. I know this country isn't that small, but it would be nice to have a little network, even if we don't actually all meet up for events.

Any other ideas about this?
7th-Mar-2006 11:52 am - Go Whitman trivia buffs!
In case anyone's curious, Whitman alumna Alicia Aho ('04) is on Jeopardy tonight. (Go roomie! :D)

Edit: and in case anyone's still curious, she totally crushed the competition. WOO ALICIA!
